- Things To Do:

Nestled
between the mysterious Everglades and North America’s only living coral barrier reef, Key Largo, the northernmost
island of the Florida Keys island chain, is a vacation paradise.
As you look at the tropical hardwoods, the winding creeks, and the
stunning coral formations, it is no wonder Hollywood chose to film
scenes from the movies “PT 109” and “Key Largo” here.

The Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary is the final
resting place of the wreck of the Spiegel Grove, a 510-foot Navy
ship intentionally scuttled in June 2002 as the backbone for a new
coral reef.

Locals consider their home the Diving Capital of the
world and nearly as famous as a sport-fishing destination. A huge
selection of charter and fishing guides are available for hire to
catch sailfish, bone-fish, redfish, tarpon permit, snook, mahi-mahi,
marlin, tuna, wahoo, snapper and many others. Key Largo is also the
perfect place for kayakers, birders and other eco-tourists.
Within
minutes the ocean access will take you to the famed coral reefs
and Gulf-Stream. Here you can dive the coral reef’s
or one of the many wreck’s.
Scuba and snorkeling equipment as well as motor boats
are available from Pennekamp and other local marinas.
Waiting
for you here in the blue Atlantic Ocean waters are dolphin (mahi-mahi),
marlin, sail-fish, tuna, wahoo, snapper,
and many more. The fishing’s great!
